The team wants to learn more about the diaphragm’s role with the administration of dopamine following hemorrhagic shock, which is when a patient is bleeding and loses a large amount of blood, obviously causing there to be less blood in circulation. The person’s blood pressure lowers and the heart rate becomes more rapid. Findings from this study could be helpful in understanding how to optimize diaphragm function thus preventing pulmonary arrest. They have been working on developing this study for about a year, but have been studying the diaphragm for about 14 years. “All of the members of my research team are so pleased to be able to begin our investigations. We are particularly looking forward to examining how different fluid resuscitation therapies affect diaphragm contractility,” said Pierce. The team plans to publish their findings and to share them at different scientific conferences.
